We’re very excited about our new restaurant opening in St Albans very soon. We’re all from out of town but decided to base ourselves in St Albans because it’s such a welcoming, characterful and beautiful city with a thriving and vibrant culture. People travel from far and wide in order to enjoy the city, whether it’s exploring the historic Abbey, shopping at one of the many independent shops, or just enjoying wandering around the shops in the attractive Georgian and Victorian streets.
Whilst we’ve made some great progress at The Abbey, there’s still lots of hard work ahead, so in the meantime we thought it would be fitting to give a mention to some of our new neighbours.
We have to start with our most famous neighbour, the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans, to give it its official title. This stunningly beautiful building is almost within touching distance of our restaurant and was the inspiration for our name. Well worth a visit and we would say that we’ve probably got one of the best views in St Albans.
On the other side of the Cathedral is the picturesque Verulamium Park. Home to Roman ruins, the park also has a hypocaust (Roman mosaic) and a lake, providing a great space for a nice walk to work up an appetite before rewarding yourself with a nice lunch at The Abbey…
Alternatively you could spend some time in George Street itself, exploring the shops and bars:
If you’re looking for a high-quality gift, or unique and distinctive products that have been locally made, pop over to Raindrops on Roses. What’s more, 100% of its profits go to charities that combat cancer, so you’re not just buying gifts for family and friends, you’re also contributing to great causes.
It’s a given that we have a passion for food but we also love music. Luckily another of our new neighbours is one of those music shops you could spend hours in. Empire Records specialise in new and second-hand vinyl and CDs – a DJ’s paradise. We’ve seen a couple of cool finds in there and we’re quite confident you will too.
A big hello to Suckerpunch from The Abbey. Just over the road from us, we could not have had a warmer welcome to George Street. If you fancy a couple of cocktails in more of a steampunk-like environment, the interior has a great vibe. They make premium cocktails in all shapes and sizes, including their signature Skull Sharer which is pretty funky.
We can’t wait to get settled into our new home on George Street and are looking forward to inviting you all in for a unique experience. In the meantime, you can stay up-to-date with what we’re up to on Facebook and Instagram so if you like what you see, be sure to follow and help support us.
